Dr. Richard “Dick” Hill, 94, founding CEO of Mayo Arizona, passed away peacefully on March 24 surrounded by loving family. Dick married Barbara (Huth) in 1983. A Hematologist at Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, Dick became a Trustee at Mayo and Board Vice Chair for 8 years. He established a Mayo Southwest branch, moving to Scottsdale in 1987 with Barbara.
Raised in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, Dick graduated from Franklin and Marshall College and Thomas Jefferson Medical School. A classical music lover, he chaired the board of the Phoenix Symphony and other charities.
Dick and Barbara traveled widely, often visiting their extensive family and in Akron, helping create the Huth Charitable Foundation, where Dick served as founding President. Dick enjoyed skiing, flyfishing, golf and photography.
Dick and Barbara have 10 kids between them: Lon Johnson, Lana Kennedy (Ray), Mark Johnson (Frances), Marty Johnson (Liz), Greg Johnson (Cindy), Jenny Johnson, Susan Langins (Andy), Lida Seamans (Dan), Kathy Hill, and Steve Hill (Laurel), 17 grandkids and 11 great grandkids.
Memorial services were held at St. Joan of Arc Church in Phoenix on April 30, followed by a Celebration of Life at Mayo Clinic Hospital.
